Job Description

Job Summary
The Welding Foreman welds metal components together to fabricate or repair products, such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors and generators, according to layouts, blueprints or work orders, using brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Welds metal parts together, using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Responsibilities include welding equipment, fabricating, fitting, sheet metal installation, vehicular body work and some machinist work to meet specifications and required standards.
  • Prepare equipment for painting.
  • Fabricates, installs and maintains in good repair the sheet-metal equipment and fixtures as required for repair of maintenance equipment.
  • May locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch.
  • May perform repairs only.
  • May be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Duties include Wash Rack detail, Tire Shop assignment.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to conduct a welding sample in lieu of routine Promotion Board to qualify for a posted position.
  • Ability to present current Welding Certification.
  • Knowledge of production planning, scheduling and layout.
  • MIG and STICK Welding Knowledge.
  • Proficient in GMAW and SMAW structural steel and aluminum welding.
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) Certification.
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Certification.
  • Knowledge of Aluminum STICK Welding.
  • Knowledge of Aluminum MIG Welding.
  • Brazing of Soldering.
  • Ability to meet deployment status requirements.

Experience & Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Typically, at least five (5) years in Journeyman Metal Trades.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
