Job Description

Job Summary
The SCADA Plant Engineer shall maintain and adhere to technical orders and good commercial practices for all plant utility, facility, and electronic controls maintenance actions throughout the waste water plant and waste water collection system.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Develop maintenance and repair projects from inception to completion.
  • Prepare maintenance and repair packages (including all deliverables) for the, procurement, and repair of water/wastewater systems in support of daily plant maintenance.
  • Perform comprehensive engineering calculations and analysis and use design software to solve complex challenges and to monitor waste water plant efficiency.
  • Make periodic inspections to see that all equipment and controls are operating properly and are in good condition.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain waste water systems.
  • Interprets instrument and meter readings; wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings and technical publications.
  • Maintain all SCADA controls, sensors and other waste water treatment systems.
  • Maintain system schematics and all maintenance manuals for all plant equipment.
  • Maintain all facility repair and maintenance documents.
  • Expertise with the use of applicable test equipment.
  • Operation and repair of on-site treatment and control systems.
  • Submit timely reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in the wastewater treatment process.
  • Ability to perform, analyze, and interpret laboratory tests for the purpose of making operational adjustments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications and drawings pertaining to plant expansions and improvements. 
  • Understanding and ability to use and maintain and manage the plant SCADA system.
  • Technical understanding of Wastewater plant operations and repair.
  • Knowledge of document and report writing.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and practices; environmental policies; principles of management.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Knowledge of lockout and tag out procedures.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and installation of wastewater treatment plant components.
  • Knowledge of the mechanical, biological, and chemical processes involved in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards in wastewater treatment plants and safety measures to be implemented.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of sound management and budget. Ability to plan and direct the work of subordinate employees.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to deal effectively with people at all levels.
  • Must have fluency in reading, writing, and speaking, and understanding English.
  • Additional knowledge/skills requirements may vary by assignment.

Job Requirements

  • Six (6) or more years of experience with a minimum of 4 years with municipal water and wastewater experience.
  • Must have maintenance, repair, and construction experience for distribution/ wastewater collection systems, pump/lift stations, water supplies, water/wastewater treatment plant facilities, and storm water systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Sanitary engineering or related technical field preferred.
  • Must be registered, licensed, or certified by a state or local authority in waste water operations.
  • Additional experience/education requirements may vary by assignment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
  • CONUS\:
    • Generally, works in normal office environment, but may be required to travel domestically and internationally on short notice, to austere environments, under harsh living conditions
  • OCONUS\:
    • Some positions will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions
