Job Summary
The Performance Excellence Director is a senior leadership position responsible for driving performance excellence across the enterprise and multiple programs to optimize operational performance, customer satisfaction and financial results.  The Director has direct reporting responsibility for Continuous Improvement, Quality Assurance, Environmental Health & Safety, and Risk Management and serves as business unit/program change agent, problem solver, and process improvement coach.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Design, implement, and maintain strategy and execute programs for Continuous Improvement, Quality Assurance, Environmental Health & Safety, and Risk Management, leveraging Best Practices, ensuring system compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and customer or contract specifications, and driving industry best-in-class capability
  • Consult and counsel with program and functional leaders to understand business needs and key metrics, prioritize projects, and provide solid results in order to maximize customer satisfaction and financial results. Influence all levels of leadership to embrace performance excellence and continuous improvement as a part of their job with relentless focus on delighting the customer
  • Oversee and drive disciplined project execution, leveraging project management and project tracking methodologies including Lean Six Sigma and Kaizen to ensure timely completion with expected results
  • Oversee ISO 9001:2008 compliant Quality Management Systems and build comprehensive QA plans, ensuring highest quality delivery of services in contract Performance Work Statements
  • Direct the evaluation of root cause analysis, systemic corrective actions, and process control monitoring;  implement preventive corrective action or mitigation programs and incorporate lessons learned into future plans
  • Execute preventative incident mitigation programs, ensuring reduction/minimization of safety incidents Establish and monitor Risk Registers and conduct risk reviews to ensure effective risk mitigation
  • Define performance metrics and implement effective reporting capability, tracking progress against goals & objectives for all functions
  • Implement Program Employee Safety Committee(s), provide training programs to empower workforce with stop work authority for safety and health breaches, and maximize employee awareness, understanding and use of tools, policies, procedures and best practices relative to all performance excellence disciplines of responsibility
  • Develop procedures unique to assigned program processes and requirements, ensuring compliance, harmony, and consistency with corporate policies, procedures, and certifications
  • Represent company while interacting with regulatory agencies as required (e.g., OSHA, EPA, FAA, etc.)
  • May serve as liaison between programs and various governmental or commercial agencies inside or outside the United States
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills
  • Change agent with strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Lean Six Sigma process improvement methodology
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement Quality Systems compliant with international standards (i.e. ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.) as required by assignment
  • Knowledge of EHS regulations and ability to implement Safety Systems compliant with international standards (i.e. OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001)
  • Ability to plan and conduct multi-functional audits and inspections and develop senior management level reports
  • Strong knowledge and skills with the ability to apply recognized Project Management and Risk Management methodologies
  • Effective leadership, communication and interpersonal skills from executive to front line levels, with an ability to collaborate with others as well as motivate and manage a team
  • Excellent consultative, influencing, conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment

Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred (i.e., Engineering, Business)
  • 12+ years of related progressively responsible experience with significant direct responsibility for Quality, Safety, Risk, Project Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Five (5) years previous management experience
  • Experience and training in Lean Six Sigma, Black Belt certification preferred
  • Experience with and/or training in ISO 90001, ASQ Quality Mgmt., PMP
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • CONUS:
    • Generally works in normal office environment, but may be required to travel domestically and internationally on short notice, to austere environments, under harsh living conditions

    • Some positions will be assigned to overseas locations where living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable, with long hours, exposure to weather, dust, and hazardous/harsh conditions
