Job Summary
The Metrology Engineering Technician I calibrates, modifies, and repairs automated/specialized test equipment and systems as well as general purpose test equipment utilized for assigned program. May provide on the job (OJT) training.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
  • Works from established calibration procedures to perform repair, calibration and modification of a wide variety of complex precision measurement equipment utilized for program activities.
  • Plans sequence of testing and calibration procedures for instruments and equipment according to drawings, schematics, technical manuals, and other specifications.
  • Provides technical assistance in area of expertise to other technicians in one or more disciplines.
  • Maintains calibration standards and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Background working with technical and procedural advice and guidance concerning metrology related matters such as the repair, calibration or modification of precision measurement equipment.
  • Can provide OJT training as required.
  • Knowledge of the basic concepts of electronics and science shall include basic electricity, electronics, circuit theory, digital logic, algebra, and physics.

Experience & Education
  • Associate's degree in electronics technology from an accredited school preferred; or completion of a U.S. military precision measurement and calibration program, a precision measurement and calibration school at an accredited school or within a specialized calibration firm with additional experience required.
  • 1-3 years of work experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electronic precision measurement equipment and calibration laboratory reference standards with a working knowledge of the basic concepts of electronics and science.

  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
