Job Description

Job Summary
 
The High Voltage Plant Operator is responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining high voltage power plants.
 
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Monitor and operate control boards to regulate power plants
  • Operate and maintain diesel generating units and auxiliary equipment
  • Inspect equipment for malfunctions
  • Analyze water samples and adds chemicals as required
  • Oil, grease and adjust machinery and equipment and makes minor repairs
  • Make periodic inspections to see that all equipment and controls are operating properly and are in good condition
  • Keep records of fuel used, power production, and general operating conditions
  • Report defects and recommend improvements, alterations and repairs
  • Maintain inventory lists and requisitions supplies, materials and repair parts
  • Clean floors, windows, tools and power plant equipment
  • Perform related work appropriate to the classification as assigned

Knowledge & Skills
  • Working knowledge of High Voltage Harvest Falcon, BEAR systems or equivalent preferred
  • Good written communications skills with knowledge of document and report writing
  • Technical understanding of high voltage operations
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Knowledge of lockout and tag out procedures
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking, and understanding English
  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment

Experience & Education
  • Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible electrical generating power plant operations experience
  • At least one (1) year hands-on experience with any two (2) of the following:
    • Electrical distribution and generation operations
    • Power generation control/logic instrumentation, and distribution controls
    • Synchronized diesel engine power generation systems

  • Substitution:
    • Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level course work from an accredited school, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school in Power Plant/Generation Operations may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

  • Valid US driver’s license preferred

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
  • Able to lift at least 30 to 50 pounds
  • Able to stand for long periods

Travel
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
