Job Summary
 
Under direct supervision, the Food Service Worker ensures that storage, serving, and dining areas are prepared, stocked, and cleaned in a manner that consistently meets food service quality standards. Assists cooks/chefs as needed in the preparation of food items for meal service.
 
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)
  • Follow all regulations, policies, and procedures regarding food handling, personal hygiene, safety, and proper sanitation.
  • Issue food and consumables from stores to dining facility departments.
  • Carry food, dishes, trays, and silverware from kitchens and supply departments to serving counters.
  • Clean and stock cabinets, serving and condiment areas, beverage and ice dispensers.
  • Operate dishwasher and disposes of trash.  Sweep kitchen and dining hall areas and ensure constant cleanliness of floors, tables and kitchen equipment.
  • Washes vegetables and fruits and assists in the preparation of other food items for use by cooks.
  • May be required to operate, maintain, and/or clean food service equipment including temperature-controlled storage units, dry storage containers, steamers, ovens, fryers, broilers, grills, meat slicers, knifes, pots, pans, floors, walls, windows, and outside areas
  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills
  • Basic knowledge of food service and sanitation standards.
  • Good English skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers and other personnel.
  • Additional skills may be required by contract or assignment.

Experience & Education
  • High School diploma desired.
  • One (1) year of experience in food service operations.
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Dining room facility/institutional food service environment.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies
  • Able to lift, carry, and push supplies and heavy boxes.
  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.

Travel
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
