Summary: The Director of EH&S (Environmental, Health & Safety) is responsible for leading, developing and executing EH&S strategies that support the Company’s business strategies and activities, and developing and maintaining a safety culture that drives continuous improvement.

 
Duties/Responsibilities:

•  
  • Develops, implements and sustains a behavioral corporate safety based program. Develops policies and procedures and keeps them current. 
  • Oversees and enforces compliance with all OSHA and EPA regulations pertaining to company operations while maintaining awareness of OSHA and EPA amendments and making recommendations for their implementation.
  • Develops and delivers training programs related to OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Reviews internal safety policies and practices and ensures they are current and appropriate.
  • Conducts hazard and risk assessments and develops new or, where necessary, makes recommendations to amend safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and enforces health and safety regulations. Creates a work environment which reflects a commitment to protecting the health and safety of employees.
  • Collaborates with a wide range of programs and identifies and analyzes risks and opportunities related to EH&S.
  • Promotes environmental, health and safety awareness. Ensures environmental health and safety programs conform to established standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and customer specifications, thereby achieving high customer satisfaction levels.
  • Works jointly and collaboratively with programs to improve operational efficiencies and reduce Health and Safety related costs.
  • Develops an accident investigation program to prevent recurrence of incidents and to ensure information on incidents is shared adequately across all programs. Facilitates incident investigations, root cause analysis and closure of corrective actions.
  • Conducts on-site reviews and audits of all programs in all locations.
  • Implements strategies to effectively resolve environmental, health and safety issues.
  • Actively participates in the scheduling of safety meetings across all programs to review safety performance.
  • Creates and maintains a culture reflective of a commitment to an illness and injury-free workplace.
  • Provides regular written reports, as well as other production-related results and updates to senior management periodically to appraise the team of issues or as requested by the team.
  • Seeks, shares and assists in institutionalizing best practices.
  • Perform other duties as requested

Knowledge/Skills:
•  
  • Demonstrate proficiency in finance and accounting relational databases and Microsoft applications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industrial safety programs and OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Industrial hygiene experience and OSHA and EPA training experience preferred.
  • Experience in implementation of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ANSI Z10, OSH VPP and other quality initiatives preferred.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks, along with strong communication skills is essential.
  • Quantitative and detailed oriented with a tenacious focus on results.

 Experience/Education:
• 
  • Bachelor’s degree in an associated discipline.
  • Professional certifications as ASP (Associate Safety Professional) and CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
  • Twelve (12) years progressively responsible experience in any combination of the following areas: Environmental Management and Compliance, Safety Management and Compliance, Industrial Hygiene.

Physical Requirements / Working Environment
  • Living and working conditions at various locations could be remote and uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to weather and hazardous materials
  • Ability to work under pressure and continuously meet deadlines.

Travel
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote and austere areas and areas of conflict.
