Job Summary
 
The Corrosion Control Specialist identifies and applies corrosion treatment/removes corrosion by chemical and mechanical means under minimum supervision.
 
Principal Accountabilities
  • Strips, pre-treats and paints aircraft, support equipment and parts in accordance with the requirements specified in applicable technical manuals.
  • Detects and treats corrosion and inspects aircraft and equipment for corrosion during scheduled and unscheduled inspections.
  • Removes, prepares, treats and applies protective coating/paint and maintains coating/paint systems on USAF systems/components.
  • Uses the correct maintenance procedures in performing work on assigned aircraft and equipment.
  • Wears the appropriate safety equipment for corrosion treatment and painting operations.
  • Completes all necessary manual and automated records required by USAF and Company directives.
  • Complies with the requirement of the FOD prevention, housekeeping, tool control, environmental and housekeeping programs.
  • Disposes of spent chemicals/hazardous waste in accordance with base regulations and company policies.
  • Follows technical data, manuals, regulations, and other maintenance directives as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in towing and movement of aircraft in performing maintenance activities.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Working knowledge of corrosion treatment and prevention and prevention methods is required.
  • Working knowledge of paint/primer removal and application procedures is required.
  • Ability to read and write and to comprehend technical data is required
  • Knowledge of base, federal and company procedures for the handling and disposal of hazardous is required.

Experience & Education
  • Completion of high school or equivalent is required.
  • Two (2) year experience in aircraft corrosion control is required.
  • Two (2) years’ experience removing/applying aircraft paint/primer using paint spray systems (i.e. conventional spray, airless spray, hot spray and/or high volume low pressure spray) is required.
  • Additionally, must have a minimum of two (2) years general experience in the last (5) years in their specific aircraft maintenance occupational field identifying, treating, and preventing T6 aircraft and or military experience in a corrosion control work center.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Must be able to pass occupational physical.
  • Must be able to become qualified and use a respirator.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum weight of 50 lbs. and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Normal color vision is required.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is necessary to obtain flight line driving privileges.

Travel
  • No travel required.
