Job Description

Job Summary
 
The Community Care Counselor evaluates, treats, and supports psychological stability among adult employees.
 
Principal Accountabilities
  • Proactively work to develop and promote wellness programming and prevention activities that stimulate employee welfare, morale, and performance
  • Conduct orientation for incoming personnel regarding individual adjustment to new culture, war zone, group living, and surviving critical incidents
  • Conduct individual psychological fit-for-duty screenings when requested
  • Deploy to areas where personnel reside following critical incidents to provide counsel, support, and critical incident debriefings to survivors
  • Design and conduct teaching seminars regarding critical topics related to morale, leadership training, post adjustment reactions following return to the US, and family and marital reactions related to adjustments at home
  • Conduct short term psychotherapy sessions with employees, provide assessments, and plan treatment
  • Coordinate care with external treatment providers as needed
  • Provide stress management relief, counseling, and guidance, as well as alcohol and drug abuse counseling, and maintain appropriate records
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of employees
  • Astute observation and leadership skills to accurately assess situations and communicate with management
  • Knowledge of employee assistance and clinical psychology concepts, policies, principles, and techniques
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and guidelines for mental health practices
  • Familiar with Department of Labor Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act
  • Knowledge and skill in post critical incident debriefing techniques and psychological first aid
  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment

Experience & Education
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working in trauma and somatic therapies, social services, case management, or related field
  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or associated discipline
  • Must have and maintain therapeutic practice and/or mental health licensure/certification in one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands
  • Prefer Community Emergency Assistance Program (CEAP) Certification
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
