Job Summary
 
The role of the Application Development Principal is to design, code, test, and analyze software programs and applications. This includes researching, designing, developing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the application development lifecycle. Will also analyze and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and provide support to other departments where required.
 
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
  • Collaborate with other developers, analysts, and customers in conceptualizing, developing, and initiating new software programs and applications.
  • Plan phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) for a variety of projects.
  • Design database to support system requirements.
  • Assist in the software requirements and specifications.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements and upgrades.
  • Perform critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
  • Provide guidance to junior/senior application development specialists and research assistants.
  • Researches and evaluates software and hardware to assist in programming, procurement or to use as a program platform.
  • Liaise with network administrators, systems analysts, and database administrators to assist in resolving problems with software products or company software systems.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of user manuals and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Working technical knowledge of programming languages, including Microsoft ASP.NET, VB.NET, C #, JavaScript, jQuery, MVC, Restful API, CSS and HTML/XML.
  • Hands on knowledge and experience working in integrated development environments, include Microsoft Team Foundation System (TFS).
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems (Windows 20012, 7 or after).
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL Server database, and/or Oracle Database.
  • Hands-on software troubleshooting knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Knowledge and experience with specific phases of the software development life cycle, especially in system concept development, requirement analysis, design, development, integration and test, and implementation.
  • Familiarity with waterfall and agile software development methodologies.
  • Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment.

Experience & Education
  • Eight (8) plus years Application Development or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in associated discipline. Two (2) years of additional related experience beyond what is required above may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college.
  • Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment
  • Works in normal office environment.
  • Some travel (up to 10%) may be required for the purpose of off-site software installation, training, or specification.
