Job Description

Job Summary
The Electrician Lead primary duties include installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairs low voltage electrical devices and systems. Erects, inspects and maintains energized and de-energized high voltage electrical distribution systems and related equipment. Secondary duties include maintenance, repair and operation of electrical power generation equipment and related equipment items.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Perform quality inspections before, during and after maintenance.
  • Complete quality documents as required.
  • Assign work assignments to subordinates.
  • Complete maintenance documentation as required.
  • Ensure that maintenance documentation completed by the technician is complete and accurate.
  • Provide technical assistance, training and OJT as required.
  • Inspect, repair and maintain high and low voltage electrical systems equipment.
  • Install, inspect and repair grounding systems.
  • Erect, operate, maintain, repair and prepare for storage electric power distribution systems.
  • Perform required scheduled inspections and all other required maintenance.
  • Perform minor corrosion control program assets.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Connect and utilize test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, meg-ohmmeters, and oscilloscope.
  • Analyze malfunctions by inspection, observation of operation, and use of test equipment.
  • Perform servicing and/or maintenance of in-use assets as required.
  • Prepare and inspect assets/equipment for shipment by air/sea/surface transportation.
  • Conform to safety and quality standards.
  • Handle the storage, use and disposal of Hazardous Materials within the assigned work center in compliance with directives and regulations.
  • Operate material handling equipment as required.
  • Ensure all tools, personal protective equipment and clothing issued remain safe, secure and serviceable, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Perform maintenance in accordance with Maintenance Action Sheets, Technical Orders and directives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Ability to read and understand technical data, plans/blueprints and publications.
  • Experienced on high/low voltage generators and load testing of the same (min = 5000 volts).
  • Capable of maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical distribution systems in accordance with applicable standards.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes such as National Electrical Code (NEC), British Standard (BS), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and/or International Building Codes (IBC), with ability to pass an electrical trade test.
  • Knowledge and skill in the safe operation and application of instrumentation to include circuit testers, power analyzers, ground rod resistance meters, ground fault loop impedance testers, and residual current device testers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematics, instructions, and other technical documentation.
  • Ability to complete accurate and timely maintenance and work records.
  • Additional knowledge and skill requirements may vary by assignment.

Job Requirements

  • Three (3) years experience as an electrical generator mechanic/operator or equivalent formal technical training. 
  • Two (2) years experience in a supervisory position.
  • Five (5) years experience as journeyman electrician related environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional experience and education requirements may vary by assignment.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Physically fit to stand and bend for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Mandatory use of appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable.
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions.
