Job Description

Job Summary
Diagnose, treat and provide preventative and restorative care for mouths and teeth. Treat injuries and infections of the mouth and teeth as needed. Proficient in performing regular check-ups and perform limited corrective surgery on gums and supporting bones to treat gum diseases. Administer medications and anesthetics for tooth extractions, root canals and other surgical procedures.  Stabilization of patient and coordination of evacuation of patient to medevac center or CONUS as required. Attends and participates in relevant meetings and working groups to improve quality and outcomes, develop policies and procedures, and implement emergency preparedness plans. Supervise the work of professional, technical and administrative staff.
Principal Accountabilities

  • Perform general dentistry
  • Provide acute dental care
  • Prescribe antibiotics and pain relieving medications
  • Provide patient care for cracked or fractured teeth
  • Perform procedures to treat decay and cavities
  • Prepare and place fillings
  • Examine patients for dental and jaw diagnoses
  • Interpret x-rays and diagnostic tests
  • Sedate patients and administer anesthetics
  • Perform tooth extractions and root canals
  • Diagnose and treat oral diseases
  • Create detailed treatment plans for patients
  • Perform surgical procedures on teeth, bone, and soft tissues
  • Educate patients on aftercare and answer questions
  • Educate patients on good oral hygiene habits
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to comply with all of the American Dental Association regulations, protocols, and procedures
  • Good manual dexterity

  • Dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of care to patients
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel

Job Requirements

  • D.S. or D.M.D. from a school accredited by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and American Dental Association.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the United States or territory of the United States
  • Certifications in CPR and Advanced Cardia Life Support (ACLS)
  • Valid malpractice liability insurance
  • Minimum 5 years’ of experience as a General Dentist
  • Six months of recent clinical experience in patient care within the last 12 months

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Recurring physical exertion such as extensive walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crawling, and similar activities
  • Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
